Hey everyone. Well, I guess I spoke to soon, and was a little cocky with the doctor's are pleased title yesterday. Let's not waste time and get right in to it. Excuse the spelling errors, tonight is a little hectic.
Patrick
This may shock you if you are new to this blog. If you're a regular here, your response will be, "what else is new?" Patrick is sick...again. He has another infection. We don't know what it is yet, but he looked limp tonight when we arrived. We started with him, since we did Brady first yesterday. When we opened his incubator, we noticed that he looked yellow. Wait, let's back up here for a moment. When we called earlier today, his nurse that that both boys were doing well. Patrick pooped, and they both were having a good day. She even said that Brady was on his back for like 5 hours. When we arrived tonight, the nurse told us that Patrick saturation level, they call it "dsat" was low. He had dsated a bunch of times, and they had to bag him. It seemed to work, so once he came back around he was put on the conventional machine. That is like someone bagging him basically. He seemed to come around, and was okay. This happened not long after we had talked to their nurse. They did do an x-ray today after the bagging episode, and they said it was hazy. He is till on treatments for this, hopefully the new vent will help. So, we get there, and he is yellow, and looks like he is out of it. His nurse said that he was very quiet, which was unlike him. So we start to work on him, and we notice he isn't really even flinching. Craig lifts his arm and lets go, and it drops. Insert mommy starting to have heart palps, which is not good because I have had them all week. Thank god we were at a hospital, cause I swear I am going to have a heart attack soon. This is the place to do it. Perhaps a dcotor visit for me is in order. I will call Monday. We continue with our hands on, which he could care less about. Come on, this is not our Patrick. I wiped his eyes, which usually gets me a tomato face, and he barely even cared. Not okay. So, the doctor comes around, and the nurse says, this is not right, and we said, this is not our Patrick, something is not right. The doctor says "If there is one thing I have learned in my years, it is to listen to my nurses, and the parents. If you say something is not right, let's do something about it." So, he readjusted the tube a little, which seemed to help a little bit. he seems to start moving around his arms, and kicking. He was due for blood work on Monday, but they did it while we were there. He was really pissed about the poking, because he was poked like 6 times at least, but it is what it is. I feel bad for the pokes, but something is wrong, we knew it for sure. They called about an hour after we got home, and said that they had some results. His billirubin was up a little, which was causing the jaundice. Once they stop the TPN (food supplement) tomorrow, that will help that. His platelets were a little low, so they are going to give him platelets. They will stop feeding during the transfusion. His CRP, which is what shows infection was at 4.5. They want it to be around .5. I apologize, I don't know what it stands for. The nurse said that it means he probably has an infection, but they are not sure where yet. The resp. therapist sent in a secretion culture, to see if that was it. he did have some secretions in his tube. They took a urine culture, and a blood culture to see if those were the culprits. We will see what happens. Is it wrong for me to call in a priest and have him dunked in a bucket of holy water. Ugghhhhhh! Once again, I ask, and plead for your prayers for Patrick. I should rename this blog, Prayers for Patrick. My heart aches for him.
Not looking so hot
After tube adjustment
I think he is saying, he doesn't want to hear about another infection.
Brady
Brady Brady Brady....sigh. Brady was doing okay today. He is doing well on his mask. He is still getting his formula, and doing well with it. He smells like formula, which usually gags me out, but it is tolerable on him. Must be because he is ours.he was 2 lbs 8 oz.today. We did a little kangarooing tonight. You would think that would be so settling after Patrick's issues. No, no..you would be wrong. he was a little antsy tonight, squirming all around. His heart rate kept going up to like 180/190. I decided to be motherly, and sing him a lullaby. We now know that this is a bad idea, because doing so, makes his heart rate go to 100, then 80, then 70, then 65. As I watch the monitor go down I give the nurse a look, and she says tap his back and stimulate him. I tap as light as I can, but with a mission. This makes it go back up. She comes over and says he is sound asleep, he just forgot to breath. Are you effing with me right now?! It's too bad I'm pumping, because let me tell you, if I wasn't, mommy would find a drug dealer, and ask him for some Zanax, and Valium, then eat them while chasing them with vodka. Last night so was comforting, and relaxing. These boys like to keep us on our toes. Just goes to show you, you are never safe. No matter how far along they get, they are never out of the woods. Damn, I love them so much! I hope they know that I have a stomach ulcer with both of their names on it. Ahh, being a parent. What doesn't kill you, gets you a white jacket, and makes you rock in a fetal position in a padded room.
Do I look happy to you?
I second Patrick, I don't want to hear it
I am going to pull this off.
I wish I had better news for everyone today. Today was a good week, so it was only a matter of time before their poop hit the diaper. They are going to start antibiotics tonight to know out whatever Patrick might have. Hopefully we caught it early!
Good night
Em and Craig
