If you could just keep the drool out of your eyes, that would be ideal...

Hello to all! Hope everyone is enjoying their coffee. I myself am not a coffee drinker. The most I can tolerate is a Jamocha shake at arbys. That's about it. I am a tea drinker myself. I don't know why I am babbling, I feel wide awake. It's 2 am, and I am typing, Craig is on the phone, and Steiner is pacing the floor. We are ridiculous. Tonight's story shall be called "Pseudomonas, and what you can do to prevent it."
1. Try not to drool.
2. If you do drool, try your hardest to not put your eyes in it. If you put your fingers in your mouth, and you notice that they become wet with your drool, try not to wipe them off.... in your eye.
3. Moral of the story...eyes don't like spit.

Patrick

Patrick is doing okay tonight. He seems to be getting back to his angry self, which is awesome. The 24 hour tests came back with you guessed it, Pseudomonas bacteria. They said that he has a tracheal infection, and that is the bacteria that is growing in his trachea. They said that this could be from the tube being in there for so long. he was intubated on 6-20, and the same tube is in there. They said it is bound to happen, especially because he drools so much. His eye culture came back with the same bacteria. It had a little bit of crust in it, but not that bad. I guess last night it was really gooey. We are super good about washing our hands all the time, and wiping with different wipes, so we don't think it was us. It is likely that he was on his belly, and he wiped his face on his towel. This is the same bacteria that Brady has in his eye. They like to share things, and be like each other. It's awesome, not stressful..at all. He was 2 lbs 5 oz. tonight. He is still not getting fed because of his "history." He stomach looks good, and they don't think he has any infection in it, but they are just playing it safe. I am okay with that. He is still on his TPN because of this. They said they might feed him in like 48 hours if all goes well. He seems to be doing well on the conventional vent. We just tried to call to see if any more results came back, but his nurse was busy.  I believe she said that the urine culture came back negative. We are not sure about the blood culture yet. We are still waiting on half of the trachea culture to come back to tell us what kind of Pseudomonas it is. I guess there are a few different types, and they want to make sure the antibiotics are right.

Laying back, chilling
Getting bigger!

Brady
Brady is doing the same. He was 2 lbs 9 oz. tonight, even after his poop today. He is doing well on his mask, and did not have any bradycardia episodes tonight. We did a little bit of Kangaroo, and he cried for a little bit at the beginning. He is starting to get more of a voice as we go on. He did well during it, and remembered to breath the whole time. Pheww.  His eye looked good tonight, not really crusty. I noticed last night while cleaning his eyes that he has little tiny eyelashes! They are so cute and blond! He is still getting his eye drops for his Pseudomonas also.
Look at that silly boy! Love those cheeks!
                                                                            So snugly

Hopefully they will continue to do well tonight. Keep the prayer coming! We always appreciate them! To all that donated this week, or are donating soon, you rock!
Em, Craig, and the one-eyed pseudo twins!
