Hello all. How's things? We are doing okay tonight. We waited for the doctor's call today regarding their eyes. I guess he had to leave and said that he would call us tomorrow. He thought we were coming in today to meet him, but with the hurricane coming, we ran errands instead. He told the doctor that the yes looked the same, and that he would do a recheck in a week. I bet they are worse next week. I did not hear from the doctor last night, but did have some questions answered about Patrick.
Patrick
As of right now, no spinal tap. I guess the platelet issue could be a sign of sepsis, which is why some of the doctors were worried about it. The doctor last night said if he was septic, he would not be doing well on CPAP, and would not be tolerating his feeds, so that is good. She thinks that it may just be that he is a preemie, and that he was sick. It could be an immaturity of the bone marrow. Hopefully they won't have to do a bone marrow aspirate, cause that will hurt like a mother I bet. That is the last resort. His platelets were up a little bit today. The doctor does not think that it's clots, and his echo looked good. His PDA was smaller and they did not see any clots. I was concerned that he looked yellow again, and I know that is liver. His liver enzymes last night were slightly elevated, but not concerning. The TPN (IV food) is very harsh on the liver. He is on Actigall to help his liver now. They said if it gets worse they may decide to do a liver ultrasound, but we will see. Tonight he was on a higher oxygen level, at about 32%, until we swaddled. He was put up to 50%, and I was not okay with that, so after he ate he went back in to his bed. 50%! Are you kidding me? His primary was unable to go in tonight, so that was a little stressful. His nurse tonight was good, but another nurse helped us with him while his nurse helped another baby. Did that make sense? Once his nurse was back on him , his O2 was back to 37%, which is still high, but not 50! That sucks. I like this new mask, because it doesn't squeeze his cheeks,, but it has completely undone all the work that his nurses did on his head. The best way I can describe it, is that once the mask comes off, he looks like Megamind. Wow, I am going to hell. It looks terrible, but it will fix itself again, so I am not worried. I see him staying on his CPAP for awhile, which means he will not be moving back with Brady. It's okay, whatever time he needs to take to help himself, I'm okay with. Just take your time Patrick, we'll wait as long as we need to. he was a big 3lbs, and 3 oz tonight. 1 ounce smaller, but I guess he had a whopper poop last night! I wasn't able to get a ton of pics tonight, because I was to worried about his O2, and making sure he was comfortable with me.
Hanging in there!
Sleeping so nice!
Brady
Brady was doing okay tonight. The nurse said that she was going to put him in a crib, but his temp was a little low when she took it. If it stays in the right zone, she can see if she can get an order to change it. I asked if he could stay back here with Patrick, and keep them together, she said yes, but he can also go to an extension spot in the progressive room. I said we would prefer him to be here, so that we can go back and forth between him and Patrick. It is nice to go back and forth to each bed, and take our time. He was 1603 grams tonight, which I think was still 3 lbs and 8 ounces. He is still a burrito in his little outfits, and seemed to be doing okay. His oxygen was a little high also, which was annoying, but he needs to breath, so it is what it is. That should be the title of the blog instead of The Connor Twins. It should be named, "It Is what It Is."
Wrapped up like a Chipotle burrito
Keeping myself warm
I will get a report from the doctor tomorrow.
Have a good day everyone!
