Hi there to all! Tonight was another busy night in the Nicu. The boys had two visitors tonight. Our friend Lisa, from Tennessee was in town, so she came along to visit with her friend, Amy. In the hallway while scrubbing, we ran into the doctor. He had some good news for us, and then later some bad news. what else is new right. Alright, let's get down to the nitty gritty.
Patrick
Oh Patrick, what are we going to do with you? So, today was a big day, and was almost a really big day. He had a head ultrasound done today. The good news is the brain bleed looks like it is smaller, and so does the ventricle that is swollen. He also said that the back of his head seemed to be closing up a little. The best news, was that his PVL had not become worse, and that there were no new cysts. Thank you lord! The bad news of the night was that his blood culture came back positive. This sucks for two reasons.
1. He didn't need another infection, he is still fighting the tracheal infection.
2. The doctor said that they are going to do a spinal tap on him tonight, because this is the second blood culture that has come back positive. He said that it could be the same bacteria that is in his eye and trachea. It could also be like a meningitis. So, they have to stick a needle in his lower back and draw out fluid to send out. Side note: I think I have an ulcer forming, and I am going to name it Patrick. He is never leaving the house, I am going to look online to see if they make bubbles in his size, ala Stewart Gilligan Griffin style. Moving on. Meningitis is just an infection in the spinal fluid. If it is that, they wouldn't do anything differently, they would just stay on antibiotics for longer, and then they can confirm that is the source. If it comes back negative, I have no idea what happens next. As I am typing this, Craig just got a call saying that they could not get any fluid, they are going to have to try again tomorrow. Ugh. On a brighter note, after all this crap..Guess what we did tonight?
Yea, It finally happened!!! Okay, it was slightly illegal, and by that I mean it was not ordered. He had to have a bed change, and someone had to hold him. He did well! I was worried that he would freak out, but he did okay. If there weren't so many people around, I would have lost it. I held it together well, but am totally tearing as I write this. I have waited since June 19th to hold him. I was so exited, yet so scared for him. I didn't want his to freak out. We both did well I guess, because I didn't freak out either! He weighed 2 lbs 5 oz. tonight. No dirty diapers cause he pooped like a champ in the morning.
Look at that smile!
Just waiting on my spinal tap, a little nervous :(
Brady
Brady is chugging along. He is still getting his 7.3 ml of formula and milk. He is doing well on his mask, and did not have any "Bradys" today. He was 2 lbs 9 oz. again. Both boys were supposed to have eye exams today, but since they both have eye infections, they are going to wait until Thursday.he was smiley again tonight. He loves head rubs!
Getting more fidgety, and starting to cry now.
I don't know why I think this pic is so funny, he is like What?!
Tiny smile!
That is all from us tonight. Hopefully better stuff tomorrow!
Good night
The Connors
