Why hello there to all. How goes it? It's alright here. Things were about the same tonight, with a few differences. Let's get this party started.
Patrick
Craig worked on Patrick tonight, because I was having kangaroo time with Brady. I love the time we get together, but feel very guilty when I don't help with Patrick. Craig said he looked a little better tonight, but looked tired. He had a big night, which became a big morning. The nurse said that she had a story for us. She said that they set up a nice sterile field for the doctor to do his tap on last night. They had him all curled in a ball, and ready to go. The doctor poked, with no results. Went back to re access the situation, and what did Patrick do? Pooped all over the sterile field while his tushy was aimed at the doctor's face. Oh boy, are we in trouble. Hey, when you have to go, you have to go. I feel bad for the doctor, but I want that boy pooping! Any who, they did another spinal this morning. To clarify, I forgot to mention that their spinal taps are not bad like adult spinal taps are. They use a small butterfly needle and pull a few drops out, that is it. The doctor explained this to me, after I am pretty sure I made a "omg, you are going to do what to him" face. I then did a huge sigh of relief. A different doctor tried again this morning, and also had no results. The blood culture came back that it was Pseudomonas also. So, he has it everywhere. That being said, because we know what it is, and it matches, they will not do anymore. The doctor today did give him Fentanyl today to relax him. She said that she didn't want to stress him out. Craig did say that he seemed very tired today. His little arms were out to the side like he was over it. He does have a cath in each arm, with an arm board. So they are a little heavy. The doctor put his feeds back up to 2 ml/hr. He was 2 lbs 9 oz. I can't believe that they could be 3 pounds in a few weeks. Fingers crossed. We just called at 2 am to see if there were new culture results, but nothing yet. They are going to give him 4-5 extra days of antibiotics because of the blood culture being positive. He is on two different types of antibiotics now. Hopefully we will know more tomorrow. Staying positive, fingers crossed, and praying that he gets over this, and has a few weeks of just growing and being healthy.
He will have biceps that will make all other babies jealous.
Getting my sleep while I can
Just starting to wake up
Brady
Well Mr. Brady is just chugging along. He is on his 7.3 ml of food. He was doing okay tonight even though his primary was put on procedure duty. She came by to visit and check on him while we were there. She loves him, haha. We cleaned his little face, and mouth. His eye looks good, and so does Patricks. He is doing well on his mask. So well, that his primary told the doctor during rounds that Brady said he wanted a nasal cannula. (He also hit 1200 grams, which was a prerequisite for changing him. That's 2 lbs, 10 oz.) She said, she was thinking about earlier, and she said they could try it to see what he does, and how he handles it. He went from this...
To this.... omg!
Before tape coming of head
After tape
When we just called, they said he was doing really well. I can't even believe it. We thought the CPAP would never happen, and now he is on a cannula. This is where the mommy sadness starts to come in. How bad am I going to feel if Brady goes to progressive, while Patrick is in the incubator still on a tube or mask. I want them to get better so bad, but I don't want Patrick to be left behind. I know that is ridiculous, but I want them to go over to Progressive together. Who knows, Patrick could get better and pass Brady up. As long as they are healthy, I will deal.
That is the NICU news for the night. I appreciate all the people who have given blood this week. Thank you to everyone who continues to send their thoughts and prayers to us. It means so much to us that you think about us. I can't say thank you enough. It really helps us get through our day knowing that we have amazing people in our life. We are blessed with great family and friends. Thankfully the doctors and nurses are just as amazing! We thank them all the time for taking care of the boys. I can't wait to have them home with us. Every moment with them is the best!
Love you all!
The Connors
