"Hi mommy and daddy! It's Brady! I just got extubated! No tube down my throat! :) He also sent a picture of himself.
It was so exciting, because not only was he on a CPAP, which is awesome, but also he learned how to text overnight. Can we say Scholarship!? Haha, no seriously, this is awesome. We did not expect this so early. Last night they turned down his vent settings to 15. They pulled blood gasses this morning, and they were good, so they took out his tube. He is breathing on his own, and he seems to be doing well. He did have some lower oxygen saturation early today, but seemed to be better though out the day. They said that sometimes they do really well, and they can stay on this for awhile. They also said that sometimes, because they become so tired breathing on their own, that they have to be reintubated. Sometimes they can go a few days but, it is hard for them, so don't be shocked if it happens. They also say that because they are working so hard, they burn a lot of calories, so don't be surprised if his weight goes down. Here is something that is scary. We went from changing diapers with a tube in his mouth, to diapers with not even a mask on. That's right, when you change things now, and clean faces, the mask comes off, and they just get flow by O2. So scary, but because of this, I was able to get pictures of his face with nothing on it. That was kind of cool. I miss looking at his little nose already! He was 2 lbs 4 oz tonight.
My little old man
Only have a feeding tube!
Waving goodbye, see you in the morning
Patrick
Our little Patrick had a good day too! It's about time right? Little Patrick pooped again today, yea!! Te surgeon checked him out today, and decided to hold off on the barium, and start feeding. He is getting Pedialyte every 3 hours. He gets 1 ml. So far, he has had two feedings, and he is holding them down. They pulled back on the tube in his stomach to see if there was any backup, but it was clear. I am still keeping my fingers crossed. I will be so happy for him if this goes well! He was 2 lbs 4 oz also tonight. He measured 13 inches. He was 11 1/4 when he was born. Growing a little inch by inch! He seems much more comfortable at this time, even off of his Fentanyl. he was sucking a lot today, so Craig gave him his Paci, and he liked it!
Signature dramatic pose
Look who has a mohawk now!
Sleepy little guy
That's the news tonight. We are hoping we can stay at the top of the coaster for a little bit. Praying hard daily, and keeping our fingers crossed! Now, for those of you that were disappointed that I did not provide pics of Patrick's first poop on last nights blog, please let me explain. Yes, I did get a picture of it. No, I did not think that you all wanted to see it while having breakfast and your morning coffee. So, here is the deal. For those of you that want to see it, I have posted it below our sign off. For those of you that do not want to see it, I suggest you stop reading after my sign off. Here we go, make your decision now!
