Good morning everyone. I am going to try to write this as fast as I can because I am fading fast. I started falling asleep on the way home tonight. First, let me start by saying that today was a bust. I didn't write a blog last night because I wanted to get some sleep, so tonight will be two days worth. We had to be up early to speak to the eye doctor today, and I knew if I blogged I would never get to sleep. I managed to get to sleep at about 1:30am. My phone went off at 4 am. It was Patrick's primary nurse. We had asked her to text us with Patrick's blood results. Good news, his platelets went up! More on that later. Let's start with this morning. We got up early to head to the hospital. When we got there, we went to Patrick's little incubator. It has been three months, and I still want to call it a cage. His eye looked a little puffy. I asked the nurse practitioner if he had his exam. She said no, the doctor isn't here today. I stopped dead in my tracts......what? I am not a morning person, at all. The fact that there was a possibility that we just got up to meet this guy, and he was not here, almost made me lose my mind in the NICU. I did not, however, because when we walked in, we saw a doctor there, and assumed it was him. It was not. It was his co-worker. We talked to the eye doctor's nurse about where the doctor is, and she says he had an emergency. Okay, no biggie, but the other doctor can go over things with us right? She says yes, and things were a little calmer in my already sleepy head. He told us a little about the history of the Avastin, and why they use it. He talked about the laser also, and why it is a little worse than the shot. We found out it is one shot in both eyes, with a small chance that they would need a second shot later on. There is a small chance that they can get an infection from it, but they usually don't see it. They started the exam on Patrick. I didn't really watch it because he started crying, and then I saw metal being placed near his eye. It was over in a minute or two, and then he was placed back in his little bedding. They said that he is almost a stage 3, which is like moderate Retinopathy. Now, do we believe this to be true. Ehhh, not so much, and here is why. As of last week, he had a mild case. He was on a lot of oxygen this week, so I have no doubt that it has become worse. However, this is the doctor that told us the first week, that he had not one sign on it, and they just had underdeveloped eyes. Now you are telling me you see stage three. Hmmm. Let's wait on the final word on that next week when the other doctor comes back. He then said that Brady was a little bit of the same in some parts, but maybe better in some other areas. I take that to mean he is basically the same. He is going to check them in a week, because he does not feel that they need treatment now. Alright then.
Patrick
Patrick is still looking good these days. He looks healthy, like something is changing. I am hoping that his body is starting to kick in and get healthy. We are going to start working on his head again. It is looking large on top from the CPAP. We are in a tough position right now because we hate the CPAP because it is messing up his head, but he still kind of needs it. They thought about trying the cannula soon again. Maybe next week he will be ready. He was on low oxygen the last two days. It was room air a few times which is awesome. Tonight he had a little bit of issues, but he was doing a little better before we left. he was a big 3 pounds and 13 ounces. he is up to 30 mls of food. We asked the doctor about his platelets tonight. We asked if he thought it went up because of the IVIG, and he said no. He said that if it was from the medicine, it would have gone up a lot, and fast, and it didn't. he things that the bone marrow is actually starting to mature, and that is why we are seeing a slow rise. That is really good news. This could be why he is looking healthy these last few days. I apologize for all the pictures. The bigger they get, the more they move, and it is getting harder to get good pics!
No tape on my face!
Go Team Patrick!
Stay out of Monstrocity! (parents out there know this)
Look at that belly!
My little old man!
Brady
Brady is up to bottles every other feeding. Sometimes he finishes them, sometimes he falls asleep. You never know what he is going to do. One thing that is guaranteed though, is the hiccups. He gets them every time that he eats. He had them bad tonight, and it sounded like little squeaks. He was 4 pounds and 4 ounces tonight. As of last night, he was taken off of his nasal cannula, so he is on nothing but room air right now. He seems to be doing well with it. His sodium is low right now, so he is getting a sodium supplement right now. He seems to be doing well right otherwise.
I'm hungry!
Is that a bottle?
New outfit!
Little monkey tushy!
Go Team Brady!
The nurses still are betting on who is going home first. Craig declared himself Team Brady tonight, and I couldn't have that, so I am officially Team Patrick. Hahaha. No, I am Team Connor! I want them both home, but I know that is not happening. They say that Brady is getting closer, so we will see. The official due date is October 5th, so we are so close! One thing is for sure, we can't go home before our little friend "Adam." Mom said if either of them go home she is going to meet us in the parking lot!
Have a good day everyone!
Love Team Connor!
